Under Construction, much like the rest of my life.

What can really be explained about a person in a simple about me? I could share my interests (not many; mostly dorky), my favorites (yawn), or give a little career bio like they do when you join a new corporation. None of that really paints a good portrait of me. I’m still figuring out what makes a person who they are…if it’s the trivial things all compiled together or something deeper. How do you find the place in yourself where the world and how it’s influenced you stops, and the real you begins? I’m not even sure yet if there’s a “real you” in any of us, or if we’re just compilations of what the world has made us to be.

The only real answer lies in what God made us to be, I guess. Whatever parts of us He designed from the start, the pieces He hand-picked and knit into our being as He placed us into our mother’s womb, that must be the real person. Now, how to find out what parts were placed by God and what parts were man-made…I imagine that takes the whole of a person’s life to discover. And I doubt any one person has ever sifted through all of it before their final day came.

As for me, there are plenty of parts. The God parts and the man parts are still very much mingled together, and I am still in the process of learning to love that person. Learning to accept that person for who she is in each given moment, the way Christ does. I don’t know if active, daily healing is a normal part of everyone’s life, but it certainly has been a constant part of mine for a very long time now. Just another thing I can’t define. Healing. I guess I’ll have to write a post about that at some point.

If you wanted the tidbits, the tiny pieces that might give you the silhouette of who I am, here are some of the ones I find most important:

What I believe: That Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He came to earth as a man in order to be a perfect, blameless sacrifice for the sin of myself and everyone else, so that I could have an intimate relationship with God and one day live with Him in eternity.
Verse that brings me peace: Revelation 21:1-7
Color(s) I put on everything: Green, pink, red
Time of year that makes me want to dance: Fall
That special day that means more than all the rest: Christmas
Places I love to go: Disney World, North Carolina, St. Augustine, Italy, Harrisburg PA
Places I long to go: Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Gettysburg PA, Washington, Washington D.C., England, Ireland, Greece, Thailand, India, etc etc etc
Books I love to read and have a lot of feelings about: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Book Thief, Narnia, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Wicked
Characters I love so deeply that they feel real to me: Sirius Black (my boo), Elphaba Thropp, Percy Jackson, Leo Valdez  (my younger boo), Rapunzel, Cinderella, Wall-E, Lilo, Robin Williams in virtually all his movies, Hercules, Alex Karev, Sokka, Bolin, Toph…the list goes on.
TV Shows I can’t stop rewatching: Avatar The Last Airbender, Grey’s Anatomy, Agents of SHIELD, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Law and Order SVU
Movies I make everyone that I mildly like sit through: Dead Poet’s Society, What Dreams May Come, Saving Private Ryan, Titanic (not for the reasons you think – don’t judge me), The Holiday, Tangled, Peter Pan, Up, Wall-E, Inside Out
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
MTBI Type: ENFP (cognitive functions, not dichotomies)
Bending type: Waterbender

If you think of other interesting pieces of information, let me know. If you think of the answers to any of my above ponders, definitely let me know.

  1. We are all “Under Construction” until we take our very last breath. He gives us the pieces as we go along and grow, if we choose to accept them. He gives us everything and everyone we need when we need them. God is in all of us, therefore, we need to remember if we love God we must also love ourselves and who we are now and who we will be tomorrow. We get the final piece, become complete, when we join He for eternity.
